214. La Aurora 115th Anniversary Edition Belicoso

Gifted by Gustavo Velayos, Sale’s and Marketing director of La Aurora Cigars.

Info: 115 years have passed since Eduardo León Jimenes founded the oldest and most internationally renowned cigar factory in the Dominican Republic, maintaining the values of quality, dedication, effort and perfection that have characterized it since its founding. More info further down after the results.

In commemoration of the date, La Aurora introduces a new cigar, La Aurora 115 Anniversary, in three different editions: 115th Anniversary Edition, 115th Anniversary Limited Edition Belicoso in 3000 boxes and 115th Anniversary Jar Edition Belicoso in a commemoration jar in only 800 jars.

Location: This review was made indoors in a cigar lounge.

Wrapper: Darker milk chocolate, oily and silky smooth with tiny veins.

Construction: Firm even feel all over.

Cold draw: Light notes of cedarwood.

1st third: Starts with a lightly roasted hazelnut note, spicy cinnamon together with a dry cedarwood after taste, leaving a sweet 55-60% milk chocolate aroma as a finisher.

2nd third: Keeps it’s well balanced flavours from part one.

The burn: Burns steady and sharp with a white stable and firm ash.

Smoke: Voluminous white smoke with a cool feeling on the tounge and a light draw.

3rd third: The prominent flavour note in the final part is cedarwood, this might sound weird but is feels like I have a stick of cedar in my mouth for each draw. It’s not unpleasant, just different. Otherwise the flavours from before are still there just more hidden in the background.

Conclusion: A medium bodied cigar with a medium strength profile. This is truly a different cigar from what I’m used to from La Aurora but even from a Dominican Tobacco in general. It’s still super enjoyable and I think a rum would open up the flavours even more, but it’s excellent just as it is together with my glass of water.

Result: In my book this is an 96 point cigar.
